Inspired by the 'Military Wives? Why not join a local choir?

Small local singing group 'Highley Singers' is hoping to capitalise on the interest generated in community singing by Gareth Malone and the amazing success of the Christmas Number One. Whether they know it or not, most people can sing, and even the most mediocre voice sounds great when you are singing alongside others. There are also many physical and emotional benefits to the act of singing and a wonderful sense of achievement when new songs are learnt.

'Highley Singers' is a small group, which sings in four part harmony, for both men and women from the age of 16, covering a wide range of music, from musicals to pop, hymns and classical songs. They have a devoted Musical Director, who works patiently with her choristers to develop their voices, music reading skills and musical ears. No-one is ever embarrassed by having to audition or sing alone unless they choose to, and individuals are never criticised.

Generally, they pay £2.50 per week, to cover costs, but are offering the opportunity for anyone who may possibly be interested in joining to attend free 'open rehearsals' on Thursday February 9th and 16th. You can go as an observer, join in if you like, sing them your favourite song, or just pop in and leave if it's not for you. Rehearsals are held in the back room of 'The Malt Shovel' and are always followed by an option to stay behind for a drink afterwards.  So, give it a try, and just think about how those women who turned down the opportunity to join the 'Military Wives' feel now!
